George Kalakallas

Giorgos Kalakallas was born in Tyrnavos in 1938. Graduated with a scholarship from the Athens Fine School of Arts. Was a Professor at the National Technical University of Athens at the School of Architecture from 1965 to 2005. He has been awarded many times and received more than 15 first-prize awards in both Greek and international competitions. He has taken part in more than 150 group exhibitions in Greece and around 90 abroad while his personal exhibitions reach the number of 38. A significant number of his work is in Museums, Galleries, Institutions and private collections but on the same time pieces of his work are displayed in public areas both and Greece and abroad. He has given various interviews in newspapers, magazines, radio shows and television, local and international, as well as given speeches and lectures. He has published a volume containing the body of his work called “Sculpture” in 1998 (Psihalos Publications). A book called “Plastic Creations I and II” was issued by the NTUA Publications in 1995. The Greek National Television (ET1) has produced a tribute titled “The creation of a sculpture, a tribute the sculptor Giorgo Kalakalla” in 1998, 1 ½ hr in length directed by Stamatis Handrogiannis. Today he holds the title Emeritus Professor at the School of Architecture, NTUA, lives and works in Geraka, Athens.
